IAFOTs Membership

The International Association for Focusing Oriented Therapists is an interest group and as such has members from various backgrounds and walks of life. Many of our members are listed on the Focusing Institute website as Certified Focusing Professionals (non-therapists, offering Focusing sessions and/or training) and Focusing Oriented Psychotherapists (registered professionals offering therapy as well as Focusing sessions and/or training). Being a member of IAFOTs does not automatically signify that the person is qualified to offer sessions in Focusing or Focusing Therapy. The IAFOTs itself does not offer certification or licensing of therapists or Focusing teachers in any way. Certification of Focusing Oriented Therapists is currently offered solely by The Focusing Institute.

If you are looking for a Focusing Oriented Therapist, you can search the Focusing Institute listing. Each therapist’s credentials, registering body, and the services that they offer, will be clearly specified with their name. However, if you are seeking professional services of any kind, it is your responsibility to determine whether the person is suitably qualified by their local professional registering bodies and a good match for your own needs. Each registering body (for example, for counsellors, psychotherapists, psychologists) will have a clear code of ethics that their members follow in terms of clinical practice. Feel free to ask questions about a member’s registrations, Focusing experience, and training qualifications, when contacting them.

This is a moderated discussion list with participants who are interested in Focusing Oriented approaches to therapeutic practices. It is mostly made up of counsellors, psychotherapists, art therapists, and psychologists from around the world, but it also includes academics, researchers, philosophers and anyone interested in the therapeutic potential of Focusing and its wider philosophical underpinnings. Upon subscribing to the list you will receive an email confirming your subscription and stating our guidelines for interacting on the list. Please read these carefully, and upon agreement, we welcome you to the IAFOTs Discussion List.
